The Future is S.M.A.R.T.

After reading a plethora of blog posts and articles about how to have the most effective 2013 I have come to a few conclusions about how I will attack my new year. The first is that NY resolutions are pointless. They are usually predicated on some sort of perceived need that it currently in front of you, but might not necessarily be so a month from now never mind a year from now. Resolutions are benign, vague, usually non measurable. For example I might say I want to lose weight as a NY resolution. This resolution is too vague to ever be accomplished or not accomplished. Thus I have moved away from resolutions and begun setting goals for my life, S.M.A.R.T. goals to be exact. S.M.A.R.T. stands for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. Any goals set for the NY need to be connected to a bigger picture one has for their life, because if they are not connected to the bigger picture they will become obsolete eventually and are not really all that relevant to the development of who you want to become. So although there are many things now that need my immediate attention, I really want to make my NY S.M.A.R.T. goals an investment in my future. My prayer is that 2013 will be a strategic year in my life and that the goals I am setting will will help catapult me into the future God is calling me to, or at minimum serve in a catalytic nature towards the same end.
