Gungor, God, & Stereotypical Terrorists

A friend of mine posted this video on his Facebook a few months back. I love the video, concept of what the band is calling people to do, but with that said I had a few questions raised by this video. The following is a Facebook conversation between my friend and I discussing the video, please feel free to add your comments to the end (please note that this is lighthearted, but still meant to provoke thought):

Carl Amouzou: I like the song. One question though, if the song is about moving past "boxed" images then why was the terrorist a brown man with a turban? Are we incapable of seeing any other ethnic group in that role? Ok that was two questions but what can you do? Three.

Friend: You're absolutely right! The song is about moving away from thinking in "boxed" terms and as we give up our misconceptions of God we will start to do the same with our misconceptions of our fellow human beings. What I'm saying is that it's a process and this song is a step in the right direction in the same way your question is. (not sure that's technically an answer but I feel ok knowing that your original question wasn't to obtain an answer but to get people thinking ; )

Carl Amouzou: Thinking people are dangerous. We just need to be fideist and blindly follow without any Questions ever!!!!!! Why take God out of his box it is warm and comfortable (he sits on a cloud for God's sake, literally). Leaving the thinking to agnostics and atheist real Christians don't think. Right?

Friend: 2nd Opinions 3:5 "Be transformed by the removal of your mind" Such a great verse xD

I think maybe the director was making a subtle hint that we stereotype everything, If you notice the other examples such as communist and lesbian were also very stereotypical images. So I think that combined with the message of the song the director was trying to get us to think about the stereotypes we jump to, rather than using one to be insensitive.

Just my humble opinion. =)
