How Do Homeless Celebrate 4th of July?... They don't

This Sunday is the 4th of July. A day of celebration and commemoration of the Independence of the United States. This day is normally spent together with friends and family around a plentiful dinner table. Unfortunately, not everybody will be able to join the partying. Outside our doors, in our streets are both homeless and poor people who not only wont have an invitation to such a party, they will hardly have enough food to fill them that night. Normally, the needy in downtown Honolulu will go to the feeding ministries in the evening to be able to eat but because the 4th of July is a federal holiday all of the feeding houses and ministries will be closed the 4th and the 5th. This means that the people who are dependent on those ministries in order to feed themselves and their families will have absolutely no place to turn those days.
They will be completely left to themselves.

This doesn't have to be!

The Parking Spot is committed to affect change in the area of Kalihi as well as being a positive influence in the homeless community there and on that night we will do our best to hand out food and support the homeless and needy on a night that is supposed to be festive for all. We will pull together what little funds we have in order to make this happen.
But we cannot do it alone... we wouldn't want to even if we could.

That is why we are asking you to come out and help us. We need people who are willing to show the homeless and needy that there are still people who care about them and most importantly that God loves them and have not given up on them. You can do that either by walking the streets with us those nights or by donating money or food that we can bring to them. We will need both!

If you want to help either by showing up or by donating give me a call or email me and we'll arrange how to pick up your donation or inform you of where and when to meet us for the outreach.
